§ Ms HarmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will list those public investment projects within his Department's responsibility which have attracted private capital and have been commenced since the 1992 autumn statement.
150W
§ Mr. BoswellThe Department does not normally fund capital projects on its own behalf. Borrowing approval or capital grant is made available to local authorities, schools, colleges and institutions of higher education.
The reply given by my hon. Friend the Member for Mid Worcestershire (Mr. Forth) on 17 December 1992, Official Report, column 347, to my right hon. Friend the Member for Tonbridge and Mailing (Sir J. Stanley) set out the Department's role in supporting the introduction of private finance in schools, further and higher education. The Department is firmly committed to expanding the scope for the use of private finance in education and is currently exploring ways of doing so.
