§ Mr. ViggersTo ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will state the dates being treated for the purposes of the Millennium Fund as the end of the 20th century and the commencement of the 21st century.
§ Mr. BrookeThe 20th century will come to an end on 31 December 2000, and the 21st century and third millennium will begin on 1 January 2001. However, we recognise that many people will wish particularly to mark the beginning of the year 2000, and for that reason the Millennium Commission's terms of reference, as laid down in the National Lottery Act 1993, are to support projects which mark the year 2000 and the beginning of the third millennium.
