HC Deb 25 May 1993 vol 225 cc530-1W
Sir Rhodes Boyson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish the total amount of support given by his Department to(a) the Housing Corporation, (b) other housing funding, excluding local authority credit approvals/capital allocations in (i) England, (ii) Greater London and (iii) the south-east, excluding Greater London, for each year from 1982–83 to 1992–93, estimated, distinguishing between current and capital expenditure.

Sir George Young

The table gives figures for the main areas of spending other than local authority capital, which also includes support to renovation grants for the private sector and housing defects expenditure. Figures for other housing programmes—including rent officers, rent assessment panels, homelessness revenue grants, housing mobility, home improvement agencies, housing research, estate action revenue, grants etc.—are either not broken down by region, or are not available on a regional basis other than at disproportionate cost. Further housing outputs are also funded through expenditure under the urban block, providing over 5,000 new units this year, and improving many more.

1 Figures from 1989–90 represent the housing element of Housing Revenue Account Subsidy only. The figures in brackets show the rent rebate element (the equivalent figures were previously part of DSS programmes).
2 Housing Corporation expenditure broken down by its regions is only available from 1990–91. The figure shown in the table for London and the South-East combined represents the total for the Housing Corporation's London and Home Counties (NE), London and Home Counties (NW) and London and Home Counties (S) regions.
