HC Deb 25 May 1993 vol 225 c546W
Mr. Richards

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has made of the effect on the south Wales economy of the construction of the Cardiff bay development; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

The latest economic appraisal estimates that the Cardiff Bay regeneration strategy, including the barrage, will attract some 23,000 new jobs and £1.2 billion of private sector investment to Cardiff bay. The wider south Wales economy will clearly benefit from activity of this magnitude, in terms of both additional jobs and changed perceptions of the region in the eyes of inward investors.
