HL Deb 24 May 1993 vol 546 c5WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What consideration they have given to the future of the Marine Emergencies Organisation.

The Earl of Caithness

We have decided that the Marine Emergencies Organisation should be a candidate for executive agency status within the Department of Transport. We are confident that this will provide the MEO with the incentive and opportunity to enhance the well-regarded service it already provides. The necessary preparatory work is being put in hand for the organisation to become an agency on 1st April 1994.
