To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people were convicted for(a) driving under the influence of drugs or (b) drunk driving in each police authority area for each year since 1989.

Numbers of convictions for driving after consuming alcohol or taking drugs are published in `Offences relating to motor vehicles, England and Wales, Supplementary tables', table 16. Copies of this publication for the years in question are in the Library.

The two offences are not separately identifiable from each other in the statistics collected centrally.
