HC Deb 20 May 1993 vol 225 cc286-7W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the President of the Board of Trade to what investigations his Department has been subject by the Data Protection Registrar in relation to a suspected breach of a data protection principle; if he will summarise the nature of each complaint and state when the complaint was made; and what remedial action was taken by his Department to ensure future compliance with the principle subject to the investigation.

Mr. Eggar

The Department of Trade and Industry has been the subject of one complaint, in August 1990, in relation to a reported breach of principle 7 (subject access), of the Data Protection Act. Provisions to protect the confidentiality of complainants have prevented a full review of records in the time available. To date, no record has been identified of the complaint being referred to my Department for action.

If my continuing inquiries indicate to the contrary, I will respond further to the hon. Member.
