§ Mr. CohenTo ask the President of the Board of Trade to what investigations his Department has been subject by the Data Protection Registrar in relation to a suspected breach of a data protection principle; if he will summarise the nature of each complaint and state when the complaint was made; and what remedial action was taken by his Department to ensure future compliance with the principle subject to the investigation.
§ Mr. EggarThe Department of Trade and Industry has been the subject of one complaint, in August 1990, in relation to a reported breach of principle 7 (subject access), 287W of the Data Protection Act. Provisions to protect the confidentiality of complainants have prevented a full review of records in the time available. To date, no record has been identified of the complaint being referred to my Department for action.
