HL Deb 17 May 1993 vol 545 c75WA
Lord Spens

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many individual cases are pending, awaiting the decision of the Secretary of State, in "C3(a) Division", and whether this number of cases is consistent with past years.

Earl Ferrers

Two hundred and fifty-six cases concerning alleged miscarriage of justice and applications for compensation are currently under consideration in C3 Division. This is similar to the level which has been commonly experienced over recent years.

The number of restricted patients under mental health legislation was around 3,500 at the end of 1992. All such cases are kept under continual review, but it is not possible to say how many are the subject of specific proposals at any one time.
