HC Deb 13 May 1993 vol 224 cc563-4W
Mr. Clifton-Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment she has made of the effect of the implementation of the Food Safety Act 1990 on the incidence of salmonella; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Sackville

The reported levels of salmonella are affected by a number of factors. These may include increased reporting of foodborne illness, changes in eating patterns and in food handling and hygiene practices. It is therefore extremely difficult to quantify the effect of the implementation of the Food Safety Act as against these other factors.
