HC Deb 11 May 1993 vol 224 c444W
Mr. Hain

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many(a) male and (b) female 16 to 19-year-olds in Wales are on (i) employment training schemes or (ii) youth training schemes; and what is the proportion of 16 to 19-year-olds on those schemes as a percentage of the total Welsh population.

Sir Wyn Roberts

The information is not available in the form requested. A breakdown by male and female participation can be drawn from the 1991 census, which recorded residents who were on Government schemes but did not identify type of scheme. Based upon individual household members' assessments of their employment position there were 7,413 males and 4,250 females aged 16 to 19 on a Government scheme. The total of 11,663 represented 7.7 per cent. of the population of that age.
