HL Deb 11 May 1993 vol 545 c57WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will insist that all new fossil fuel power stations be built to provide combined heat and power.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Baroness Denton of Wakefield)

It is the Government's policy when considering an application under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 for a proposed power station to treat, as a general rule, matters such as the need for the station, its capacity, choice of fuel and type of plant as commercial matters for the applicant.
