HL Deb 10 May 1993 vol 545 c50WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether international help is being made available to Turkey in order to take advantage of the ceasefire declared by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in March, and to move towards political solutions for the Kurdish regions of Turkey.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We are not aware of any international aid being given to Turkey in connection with the unilateral ceasefire declared by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). We welcome Mr. Demirel's statement that the State of emergency in the South-East will not be extended beyond its expiry on 19th July provided the present calm situation continues, and the announcement of other steps including increased investment in that part of the country.
