§ Mr. DunnachieTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to give special financial assistance to the housing estates within Glasgow, Pollok, constituency.
§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton[holding answer 27 April 1993]: Glasgow district council's housing revenue account capital allocation for investment in council housing in 1993–94 is £87.045 million. It is for the council to determine its own priorities for the use of these substantial resources in the light of local circumstances, including investment in housing estates in the Pollok area if this is seen as a priority. In addition, Scottish Homes plans to invest £9.515 million in Pollok in 1993–94 through expenditure on its own stock, grants to housing associations and private sector housing providers. The bulk of this will be for rented housing and will enable site starts to be made on approximately 260 housing units. The urban programme is also currently funding a variety of projects in Pollok which are sponsored by Strathclyde regional council and Glasgow district council, including industrial improvements, addiction care and neighbourhood and business centres which total £1.285 million in capital costs and £587,000 in annual running costs.
