Graham31.Mr. To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the Inverclyde enterprise zones.
§ Mr. StewartThe need for site clearance, servicing and infrastructure works on most of the sites, and the general economic situation, has meant that progress on the zone has been a little slower than we might have hoped. There have also been local difficulties which have contributed to delays in bringing forward sites for development.
Nevertheless, there are extremely encouraging develop-ments on the zone. The proposed development by MIMTEC at Faulds park in particular is expected to create 400 new jobs and bring £20 million of investment to Inverclyde. The zone partners are working, with the Scottish Office, to build on this and earlier successful developments; and to ensure that the zone meets its target of creating 3,200 new jobs in the area.
