HL Deb 29 March 1993 vol 544 c40WA
Lord Clinton-Davis

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many properties in the London Borough of Hackney are likely to be affected by noise and other environmental disadvantages arising from the construction of the Channel Tunnel rail link, based on the statement to Parliament on 22nd March.

The Earl of Caithness

No properties will be demolished in the London Borough of Hackney. The line will be in tunnel throughout the borough and there will be consultation by Union Railways locally on any impacts that the tunnel may have. Our preference is for a terminus at St. Pancras, subject to further detailed work by Union Railways; on this basis, there would be no need for a construction site for tunnelling operations within the borough. However, a tunnel to King's Cross Low Level, since it would be longer, would require a tunnelling construction site within Hackney.
