HC Deb 23 March 1993 vol 221 c548W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will set out his targets for the sale of Forestry Commission land in Wales in the current year and for each of the next three years.

Mr. David Hunt

The Forestry Commission has sold 900 hectares of forest land in Wales in the current financial year. As announced in Cm 2214, "The Government's Expenditure Plans 1993–94 to 1995–96 for the Departments of the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Forestry Commission", table 13.10, the Commission plans to sell 15,000 hectares of forest land in Britain in each of the next three years. The proportion of this that will be sold in Wales will depend on the state of the market, particularly the demand for forest land in different parts of Britain. Over the past three years, 20 per cent. of the sales have been in Wales, but it is likely that the proportion will be smaller over the next few years.
