To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much money has been(a) allocated and (b) spent on capital works programmes for water services in Northern Ireland since 1991–92 in connection with compliance with EC requirements; and what slippage has taken place in programmes to achieve EC directives since 1991–92 on drinking water, bathing water, and disposal of sludge to agricultural land.

There has been no significant slippage on schemes carried out by the Department of the Environment to comply with EC directives on drinking water, bathing water and disposal of sludge to agricultural land.

The amounts allocated and spent on these schemes in 1991–92 and 1992–93 are as follows:
