HC Deb 22 March 1993 vol 221 c477W
Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what arrangements his Department has made to maintain traffic flow on the A13 at Canning Town during the period of road works; what assessment was made of the likely delays occasioned by the plans adopted; and what is the extent of maximum delays now being experienced.

Mr. Norris

These major road works will provide the westbound link of the A13 to the new docklands highways. To keep delays and disruption to a minimum, plans were drawn up in concert with the local authority, London Docklands development corporation and the police, but it was accepted that working in close proximity to a very busy trunk road would inevitably cause some delays. Before the works started the morning rush hour queues regularly extended to the end of the Canning Town flyover, and at times back to Freemason lane. Although delays are now longer the police have confirmed that these have been less than they anticipated. Conditions are expected to improve following the removal of lane restrictions on the Canning Town flyover this last weekend.
