HC Deb 18 March 1993 vol 221 c325W
Mr. Rogers

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the preliminary estimates made by the Board of Inland Revenue of the capital gains tax lost due to overseas ownership of United Kingdom assets in each of the years from 1983 to 1989.

Mr. Dorrell

In common with most other countries, the United Kingdom does not in general tax capital gains made by non-residents. Information on which to estimate the effect of a change in the law in this respect is not available.
