§ Mr. KilfoyleTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many job inquiries are allowed per applicant at the Liverpool, Williamson square, jobcentre; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. McLoughlinResponsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Service Agency under its chief executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.
Letter from M. E. G. Fogden to Mr. Peter Kilfoyle, dated 17 March 1993.
As the Employment Service is an Executive Agency, the Secretary of State has asked me to write to you direct to respond to your Parliamentary Question to her about how many job enquiries are allowed per applicant at Liverpool, Williamson Square, Jobcentre. This is something which falls within the responsibilities she has delegated to me as Chief Executive of the Agency.Between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm we arrange up to two job interviews for each jobseeker at Williamson Square Jobcentre. Outside those hours, we will arrange three or even more job interviews if the jobseeker wants us to.These different approaches reflect the variations in the number of callers over the course of the day at Williamson Square. The office is open Monday to Thursday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm and Friday 10.00 am to 5.00 pm but it gets an unusually high concentration of callers between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm. We aim to give a good service to everyone we see and we also aim to meet the commitment under our Job Seekers Charter that no one should have to wait for more than 10 minutes before they are seen. We achieve that at Williamson Square Jobcentre by using the approach I have described. As decided by the Administration Committee of the House of Commons, Chief Executive replies to written Parliamentary Questions will now be published in the Official Report. I will also place a copy of this letter in the Library of the House.
