HC Deb 15 March 1993 vol 221 c97W
Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the problems that would arise in the event of a ship being grounded while transporting spent nuclear fuel for re-processing.

Mr. Norris

A grounded ship would present problems of rescue and salvage but the presence of spent nuclear fuel flasks would present no special problems. If it became necessary to salvage flasks, this would be done by the transporters in conjunction with the salvors, arid the operation would be co-ordinated by HM Coastguard.
