HC Deb 15 March 1993 vol 221 cc104-5W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he last met the trustees of the National Galleries of Scotland to discuss(a) the commissioning and (b) the likely location of a new national gallery; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Hector Monro

Following a meeting with the chairman of the board of trustees in April 1991 my right hon. Friend provided funds to enable the National Galleries to commission a comprehensive option appraisal in relation to their new gallery proposal, but gave no commitment to provide funding for the project. That remains the position.

My right hon. Friend has had no further meetings with the chairman or the trustees on this particular matter.

Dr. Godman
