HC Deb 10 March 1993 vol 220 c596W
20. Mr. Robert Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent discussions have taken place concerning the situation in the Sudan.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We have discussed the situation in Sudan with our EC partners, the United States and other countries which give relief, and also with Governments in Africa and the middle east. We are following up at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva the United Nations General Assembly resolution on the human rights situation in Sudan adopted by an overwhelming majority in December. We hope that the United Nations Commission will agree to appoint a rapporteur to investigate the situation in Sudan on a public basis.
