HC Deb 10 March 1993 vol 220 c582W
Dr. Moonie

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what was the net expenditure on research and development activities by the Higher Education Funding Council, and its predecessors, the Universities Funding Council, University Grants Committee and the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council, in each year since 1979(a) in cash terms and (b) at current prices.

1. Mr. Boswell

Estimated expenditure on research and development funded by the University Grants Committee, the Universities Funding Council and the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council from 1979–80 to 1991–92 is shown in the table. There are no outturn spending estimates for later years. The figures are based on a notional attribution of spending between teaching and research. The funding councils have not separately earmarked funding for teaching and research.
