HC Deb 10 March 1993 vol 220 cc595-6W
17. Mr. Illsely

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which members of Her Majesty's Government will be available to meet the Dalai Lama during his visit to Britain later this year.

Mr. Goodlad

I understand that the Dalai Lama will be visiting this country privately in May. As a distinguished religious leader and Nobel Prize winner he is very welcome. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs has indicated that, if a suitable time can be found, he would be glad to have a private meeting with his holiness. I do not know the private plans of other members of the Government.
