To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now make a statement about the death of Andrew Ohene in Swaleside prison on 13 June 1992.

At the inquest into the death of Mr. Ohene, which concluded on 5 February 1993, the jury recorded the verdict that death was caused by "misadventure aggravated by lack of care". Following the inquest, the prison service operational director with responsibility for Swaleside prison established an inquiry into the circumstances of Mr. Ohene's death. The inquiry is being conducted by Mr. John Harrison, the governor of Canterbury prison, and by Dr. Roger Ralli, principal medical officer within the prison service's directorate of health care.
