§ Mr. DafisTo ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will make it his policy to seek to amend the Education Act 1981 to prohibit the exclusion from school of children with special educational needs while(a) the process of assessment or (b) an appeal by parents against their child's statement is ongoing.
§ Mr. ForthNo. While we look to schools to use exclusion sparingly and as a last resort, particularly where pupils with special educational needs are concerned, there will he instances where it is the most appropriate response to serious misbehaviour.
