HL Deb 08 March 1993 vol 543 c45WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have about the epidemic of leishmaniasis in the Western Upper Nile Province of Sudan, and what response they are making to the appeal to the international donor community for 1 million dollars to purchase and transport drugs, disposable syringes and diagnostic equipment.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

No appeal has been made. If one is launched, we will certainly consider it. In the meantime, we await further information on the extent and severity of the current outbreak of leishmaniasis, which should become available from visits in the next few weeks by teams from WHO and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (Atlanta).
