§ Mr. MeacherTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about British aid to Kenya.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydWe continue to make a significant contribution to Kenya's development. Our aid programme amounted to £29 million in 1991–92. We also provided over £9 million humanitarian assistance in 1992, including our share of EC activities. However, in common with other donors, we have withheld consideration of new balance of payments assistance pending economic and political reforms. There has been progress on the political front. We now await the outcome of a recent review of economic progress by the International Monetary Fund.
