HC Deb 05 March 1993 vol 220 c305W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with the south Glamorgan health authority regarding the completion of the contract with his Department to provide 200 additional knee and hip replacement operations for those on consultants' waiting books for more than 18 months; what approaches have been made to him in relation to staffing difficulties in orthopaedic operating theatres in the Cardiff Royal Group of Hospitals; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

Responsibility for meeting the patients charter guarantees for knee and hip replacement operations rests with health authorities, who need to negotiate appropriate contracts with a range of providers.

No approaches have been made to the Department about staffing levels in orthopaedic theatres in any of the hospitals in the Cardiff Royal Group.
