HC Deb 05 March 1993 vol 220 cc364-5W
Mr. Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) which locations have been selected for general practitioner/community-led midwifery services in Angus;

(2) what estimates he has of the staff implications of creating general practitioner community-led midwifery services in Angus hospitals; and what representations or discussions he has had on this subject.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 4 March 1993]: As a pilot study, Tayside health board plans to introduce, in Forfar, a general practitioner-led maternity service which has on-call support from the local community midwives.

The new service will be located at Whitehills hospital and replace the current maternity service provided at Fyfe-Jamieson maternity home. The relocation, together with the change of service will result in a decrease in staffing of 10 whole-time equivalent nurses and 3.4 whole-time equivalent support staff.

The Secretary of State has not received any representations about the planned service or held discussions on the subject.
