HC Deb 04 March 1993 vol 220 c251W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many representations he has received from independent schools regarding the provisions of the Education Bill; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Wyn Roberts

One.

Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what assessment he has made of the likely impact of the Education Bill upon independent schools; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Wyn Roberts

Independent schools will welcome the measures in the Education Bill which aim to prevent the employment of barred persons and also the proposals to exclude certain independent boarding schools from registration as children's homes. The Bill complements the long-established role of the independent sector in providing for greater choice and diversity to meet the needs of pupils and parents and in encouraging schools to specialise in their particular strengths.
