HC Deb 03 March 1993 vol 220 c203W
Mr. Dewar

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the number of taxpayers who receive(a) family credit, (b) housing benefit, (c) community charge benefit, (d) all three benefits and (e) at least one of those three benefits.

Mr. Burt

[holding answer 25 February 1993]: The information is not available in the precise form requested. Couples who claim family credit, housing benefit and community charge benefit are treated as a single unit. Therefore, the numbers given are in terms of taxpaying households rather than individual taxpayers.

Number of households in receipt of benefit 000's
Family Credit 221
Housing Benefit 277
Community Charge Benefit 471
All three benefits 19
At least one of the benefits 704

Notes:

1. Figures in the table show the position at May 1990, the latest available date for all benefits.

2. As at July 1992 the number of taxpaying households receiving Family Credit was 282,000.
