HC Deb 02 March 1993 vol 220 c129W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment under what circumstances a school teacher would be disqualified from being elected as a member of a local authority under section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972; and what proposals there are to allow school teachers at grant-maintained schools or schools subject to local management to stand for membership of a local authority.

Mr. Robin Squire

Teachers are currently barred only from standing for election to the local education authorities of which they are employees. There are no plans to amend this provision, which does not apply to teachers in schools which have opted out of local education authority control.
