HL Deb 02 March 1993 vol 543 c35WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware of evidence suggesting that there are long-term effects to the health of humans using organophosphates.

Baroness Cumberlege

At present there is no clear evidence that the use of organophosphates, as used in sheep dips, cause an unacceptable level of health risk to humans when used in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions. However, Her Majesty's Government are aware that deliberate misuse, accident or neglect of the recommended safety precautions during use may have long-term effects on health. A review of sheep dips by the Veterinary Products Committee (VPC) is currently in progress.
