HL Deb 01 March 1993 vol 543 c23WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they will initiate to prevent the demolition of houses by the Israeli Army in Gaza and other collective punishments elsewhere in the Occupied Territories.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

On 9th February my right hon. and learned friend the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs expressed in forceful terms our concern at Israeli practices in the Occupied Territories in a speech to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva.

On 18th February European Community Troika Ambassadors made a démarche to the Israeli authorities on the same subject. The Community noted with particular concern the wanton and deliberate destruction of property by the Israeli Defence Forces. The Community called on Israel to respect in full her international obligations regarding human rights, especially under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
