HL Deb 29 June 1993 vol 547 c30WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the satisfaction expressed by 13aroness Denton of Wakefield on 7th June (col. WA 46) that no attempt will be made to use plutonium exported to Japan for other than civil purposes is based on a written undertaking by the Japanese Government, and if so, whether they will place copies of that undertaking in the Libraries of both Houses.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Baroness Denton of Wakefield)

The Japanese Government gave such an undertaking in the agreement signed between the United Kingdom and Japan for Co-operation in the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy. Copies of the agreement are available in the Libraries of both Houses.
