asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements there are to allow applicants for British National (Overseas) (BN(0)) status in Hong Kong to continue to hold a British Dependent Territories Citizen (BDTC) passport when they are registered as BN(0)s.

We have agreed with the Hong Kong Government that the following arrangements will come into effect on 1st July:—

  1. (i) A person registered as a British National (Overseas) who has a British Dependent Territories Citizen passport which is valid until 30th June 1997 may retain it when issued with his British National (Overseas) passport.

  3. (ii) A British National (Overseas) applicant who wishes to have a new British Dependent Territories Citizen passport as well as a British National (Overseas) passport must pay the prescribed fees for both the British Dependent Territories Citizen and British National (Overseas) passports.
  4. (iii) The fee for a British Dependent. Territories Citizen passport will be the same for all applicants regardless of when the passport is issued.
  5. (iv) An existing British National (Overseas) who gave up his British Dependent Territories Citizen passport when registering as a British National (Overseas) and who wishes to re-acquire a British Dependent: Territories Citizen passport may do so on payment of the appropriate British Dependent Territories Citizen passport fee.

All British Dependent Territories Citizen passports will, of course, expire on 30th June 1997.
