Notes:
1. The figures have been rounded to the nearest thousand. Cost figures are given to the nearest hundred thousand pounds.
2. Figures are given for the numbers of income support recipients who have mortgage interest considered iri their assessment. The annual costs have been estimated from the weekly amount of mortgage interest considered in the assessment. In practice the amount of income support paid to the recipient may be reduced due to assumed contributions from non-dependants living in the household.
3. Some "Pensioners" may also receive a disability premium. These people have been counted as "Pensioners" rather than "Disability premium recipients".
4. Costs at 1988 prices have been calculated using the gross domestic product deflator.
