To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, pursuant to his answers to the hon. Members for Ealing, North (Mr. Greenway) and for Glasgow, Garscadden, (Mr. Dewar) of 29 April,Official Report, columns 526–27, how many other residents of the United States have received United Kingdom social security, housing or other benefits this year.

In December 1991, the latest date for which figures are currently available, 67,596 people resident in the United States of America were receiving United Kingdom retirement and widows pensions. There are currently 1,080 residents of the United States of America in receipt of war pensions. Information on other benefits is not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
