HC Deb 14 June 1993 vol 226 c457W
20. Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what initiatives he is taking to promote tourism in London.

Mr. Sproat

Government support for tourism is channelled through the British Tourist Authority and the English tourist board. Via the English tourist board, support is also made available to the eleven regional tourist boards, including the London tourist board (LTB). The LTB has a number of initiatives to promote tourism in London, many involving partnerships with private sector organisations.

In addition, the Government have set up the London Forum with the specific task of promoting London overseas. It will operate through two subsidiary companies. One of these, London Visitors, will be chaired by Sir Hugh Bidwell, chairman of the LTB, and will work closely with the LTB to promote tourism in the capital.
