HC Deb 14 June 1993 vol 226 c435W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department at what intervals after their basic training police officers receive updating of their first aid training; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Charles Wardle

All probationary constables are trained to St. John Ambulance certificate level at the district training centres.

After completion of the foundation course, responsibility for further first aid training falls to individual police forces. Some continue with the St. John Ambulance service, which has a re-qualification period of three years, while others run their own courses under the auspices of other bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive or the Red Cross. The re-qualification period under these schemes varies from force to force.
