What is the relationship between United Nations forces on the ground in Somalia and the United States naval forces not under United Nations Command, and whether they can ensure that no force operating under any United Nations Security Council resolution does so other than as a peacekeeping force.
§ The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)The UNOSOM II force acts according to mandates given to it by the United Nations Security Council. The Force Commander has the authority to seek additional support from any troop contributor, including the United States. If additional personnel are deployed, they would act according to the same mandate.
