Housing Action Trust chairmen are remunerated at the rate of £25,315 a year although more may be payable when the workload is particularly heavy. Deputy chairmen are remunerated at the rate of £8,590 a year, and all other board members £5,030 a year.

One of the chairmen is a Conservative, six of the eight councillors on the boards are members of the Labour party, one is Conservative and one a Liberal Democrat. Whatever their political affiliation, all HAT board members are expected to abide by a code of conduct which, among other things, covers political activities.
