HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 c977W
Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what evaluation he has made of the survey by Highlands and Islands Enterprise of the economic impact of the Royal Artillery range in Balivanich upon the Western Isles economy; and if he will commission a similar survey of the social and economic impact of closure of the range.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The survey by Highlands and Islands Enterprise which was carried out with the full co-operation of the Army confirmed the important role which the Royal Artillery range Hebrides plays in the economic and social structure of the islands of Benbecula and North and South Uist. There are at present no plans to commission further studies.
