§ Mr. YeoThe Council directive on the limitation of emissions of certain pollutants into the air from large combustion plants is delivered by the United Kingdom's programme and national plan for reducing emissions of sulphur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen from existing large combustion plants.
Under the programme and plan, the operator of Fiddlers Ferry power station, PowerGen, is given a company wide quota for each year for sulphur dioxide emissions for allocation to individual stations. As limits are not set for individual stations, measures to be used to control emissions of sulphur dioxide are not specified.
Limits are set by Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution to secure its wider objectives under part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
