HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 c879W
Mr. Burns

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what changes have been made in the rules on interest-free loans advanced to civil servants for house purchase when they are relocated to higher housing cost areas.

Mr. Dorrell

From 4 May 1993, Departments and agencies have had discretion to pay advances of salary of up to 12 months' salary with a repayment period of 20 years, where it is affordable and cost effective to do so. This is an increase over the earlier limit of six months' advance of salary repayable over 10 years. These changes were made as part of a wider delegation to Departments of responsibility for determining the relocation expenses of civil servants.
