HC Deb 26 July 1993 vol 229 cc645-6W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was the price per tonne of uranium in 1977, adjusted to 1993 prices; what was the projected price for 1993 given in the Windscale inquiry report; what is the current cost per tonne of uranium; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

The Euratom Supply Agency's report for 1992 shows that the average price of natural uranium deliveries made during the year under multiannual contracts to the electricity utilities of the European Community or their procurement organisations was 49.50 ecu per kilogramme of uranium. The agency's 1977 report did not provide a comparable figure for that year because of uncertain conditions in the market. Illustrative prices for uranium were mentioned in chapter 9 of the Windscale inquiry report.

Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how much uranium separated by reprocessing at Sellafield over the last 40 years has been used in reactors(a) by weight and (b) as percentage of total uranium produced.

Mr. Eggar
