HL Deb 15 July 1993 vol 548 cc26-7WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What restrictions have been imposed by Israel on the export of fruit and vegetables from the West Bank and Gaza; whether these have cut off exports to the EC; if so whether this breaches Israel's trade agreement with the EC, and what action will be taken to ensure compliance.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

Exports from the West Bank and Gaza have been affected by the Israeli decision to close off the Occupied Territories. H. M. Ambassador and his European Community colleagues have raised the damaging social and economic effects of the closure with the Israeli authorities. The EC-Israel co-operation agreement does not apply to the Occupied Territories.
