HL Deb 13 July 1993 vol 548 c9WA
Lord Howell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

At which hospitals in the London area bone marrow transplants can now take place; how many such transplants have taken place at each of these hospitals in recent years; and whether the services now provided are satisfactory for the demands made upon them in view of previous assurances given by Ministers that the unit situated at the Westminster Children's Hospital would be relocated in London.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

There is no delay in treatment for bone marrow transplant patients in London other than, naturally, the wait, if necessary, for a donor. The detailed information requested is not held centrally. There are eight hospitals in London that undertake bone marrow transplants, some for children. Many of the patients treated at these hospitals come from outside London.
